RECOMMENDATIONS:

 

APPROVE amendments to the Conflict of Interest Code for the Office of the Public Defender, as recommended by the County Counsel.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

None.

 

BACKGROUND:

 

The Office of the Public Defender has amended its Conflict of Interest Code and submitted the amended code, attached as Exhibit A, to the Board for approval pursuant to Government Code sections 87306 and 87306.5.

 

The adoption of this amended conflict of interest code for the Public Defender satisfies the requirements for such a code under state law by incorporating the provisions of 2 CCR 18730 and any amendments to it adopted by the Fair Political Practices Commission and by specifying disclosure categories and designated positions that must file statements of economic interests.  A red-lined version of the Conflict of Interest Code is included as Exhibit B.

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
