The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, California

IN THE MATTER OF Proclaiming October 4-10, 2026, as National 4-H Week.


WHEREAS, The Contra Costa County network of 4-H youth members, volunteers, and leaders will celebrate National 4-H Week during the week of October 4-10, 2026; and

WHEREAS, this year’s National 4-H Week theme, “Beyond Ready,” reminds us that 4-H is building a ready generation in a world of change and equips young people with skills for the future while meeting them where they are today; and
WHEREAS, 4-H is America’s largest youth development organization, supporting six million youth across the country; and

WHEREAS, 4-H helps young people become confident, independent, resilient, and compassionate leaders; and

WHEREAS, 4-H delivered by Cooperative Extension- a community of more than 100 land- grant universities across the United States that provides experiences for young people to learn through hands-on projects in the important areas of health science, agriculture and civic engagement and;

WHEREAS, California 4-H is delivered by the University of California Cooperative Extension, the research and the outreach arm of the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources; and

WHEREAS, compared to their peers, 4-H youth are four times more likely to make a positive contribution to their communities and two times more likely to take courses and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and
