Report Title:                     APPROVE appropriation adjustment No. BDA-26-00625 for Motorola Radios.

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE Budget Amendment No. BDA-26-00625, authorizing new revenue in the amount of $115,000 from Fund 105600 (County Law Enforcement Capital Project Fund) Org 0129 and appropriating it to Fund 100300 (General Fund) Org 2512 Sheriff County Info Services for the purchase of Motorola radios for the Office of the Sheriff.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This action increases revenues and appropriations by $115,000 in the Sheriff’s Office General Fund department and is funded 100% by Fund 105600 County Law Enforcement Capital Project Fund.

BACKGROUND:

The Sheriff-Coroner utilizes the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT), which are comprised of deputies working in an ancillary capacity. During previous SWAT and HNT deployments during critical incidents, deputy response and preparedness were delayed due to radio shortages caused by radio age and damage.  To improve response times and public safety, the Sheriff-Coroner requires the purchase of 10 new Motorola portable radios to be issued to the SWAT and HNT personnel.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board does not approve, the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff SWAT and HNT teams may continue to experience delayed response times during critical incidents, negatively impacting public safety.
