RECOMMENDATIONS:

ADOPT CLARIFICATION that on September 12, 2023, the Board’s approval of Resolution No. 23-538 regarding compensation and benefits for unrepresented fire safety management classifications in the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District included approval of a verbal amendment to delete Section 27. No Vacation Buy Back, in its entirety, so as to provide the vacation buy back benefit to the Fire Chief going forward from September 12, 2023, in the same manner as the other safety management classifications.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

No additional fiscal impact from this clarification. Adoption of the clarification would allow the fire chief to sell up to 1/3 of their annual vacation accruals in given twelve-month period. The cost of vacation buy back is dependent on usage.

 

 

BACKGROUND:

On September 12, 2023, the Board of Supervisors approved Resolution No. 23-538 regarding compensation and benefits for unrepresented fire safety management classifications in the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. The presentation included a verbal modification to delete Section 27 from the Resolution, which was followed by the approval of the item by the Board of Supervisors. This action is intended to provide clarification of the Board’s intent to incorporate the verbal modification to eliminate Section 27. No Vacation Buy Back in its approval of Resolution No. 23-538.

 

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The record of Board approval of Resolution 23-538 will lack clarity on the verbal amendment to delete Section 27. No Vacation Buy Back from Resolution No. 23-538.
