Report Title: Purchase Order with Ceribell, Inc.
☒Recommendation of the County Administrator ☐ Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute on behalf of the Health Services Director, a purchase order with Ceribell, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $800,000 for the purchase of electroencephalogram (EEG) headbands for Contra Costa Health (CCH) for the period of June 1, 2024, through May 31, 2027.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this action will result in expenditures of up to $800,000 over a three-year period and will be funded by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.
BACKGROUND:
EEG systems measure brain electrical activity by placing electrodes on the scalp. Ceribell, Inc. provides equipment and staff training for EEG tests, crucial in diagnosing neurological diseases in inpatient settings.
Our current testing lacks consistency and availability, falling short of regional standards. The Ceribell system ensures 24/7 EEG testing at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) without extra staff or expenses. It is set up in under 5 minutes without an EEG technician and includes AI software for real-time seizure detection, medication management, and instant waveform analysis.
On April 30, 2024 the Purchasing Agent approved the use of Ceribell, Inc.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, CCRMC will not be able to perform EEG tests for patients which would negatively impact patient care and safety.
