RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute Budget Amendment NO. BDA-26-00553, authorizing the transfer of appropriations in the amount of $350,000 from Org 2505-2479 (Other Special Departmental Expenditures) and appropriating it to Public Work's Org 4407-4116-WH116A, both within the General Fund, for the FOB Lobby Construction Project for the Office of the Sheriff.

FISCAL IMPACT:
This transfer of $350,000 in appropriations will provide the necessary budget within a Public Works construction project org, funded 100% by the General Fund.

BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff operates the Field Operations Building (FOB), where clerical staff interact daily with members of the public for services including vehicle releases, records requests, permit applications, and inquiries about cases investigated by detectives. These interactions require staff to communicate with citizens in a lobby setting.
To enhance workplace safety and improve security within the lobby, the Office of the Sheriff proposes the installation of a customer service counter and barrier at the public interface. The addition of a customer counter with a barrier will establish a defined service area while providing a layer of protection for clerical personnel. This improvement is intended to mitigate safety risks, reduce vulnerabilities, and create a safe environment for staff and visitors.
