Report Title:                     Discharge from Accountability for Uncollectible Account Receivable Balance

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

AUTHORIZE the discharge from accountability for the account of former tenant Faride Khalaf totaling $610.00, which is not collectible due to one or more of the following reasons:  the accounts are being discharged in bankruptcy; the debtors are deceased; the statue of limitations for pursuing recovery of the debt has expired; the cost of recovery is excessive; and/or the debtor no longer resides in the state, as recommended by the Public Works Director.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The impact of the write-off will be borne by the Airport Enterprise Fund.

BACKGROUND:

The Airport is carrying an outstanding balance from an account of a former tenant, Mr. Faride Khalaf, in the amount of $610 due to non-payment of assessed aircraft storage rent. On December 14, 2022, Airports staff went through the eviction process and then the abandoned property process as the tenant did not remove his aircraft from the airport. Because the aircraft was determined to be abandoned, it was sold at public auction. The balance of $610 is deemed unrecoverable as the Airport was only entitled to costs of storage, advertising, and sale from the time the aircraft was determined to be abandoned to the date of sale. For this reason, Airports staff recommends that the remaining balance be written off.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The Airport Enterprise Fund will be overstated by $610.
