RECOMMENDATIONS:
Acting as the governing Board of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the purchasing agent to execute, on behalf of the Fire Chief, a purchase order with William E. Munson Company, increasing the previously approved purchasing authority by $35,000 from $825,000 to $860,000 for the purchase of a 32-foot boat for the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Maritime Response Team.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The requested purchase will be funded 100% by the EMS Transport Fund.
BACKGROUND:
On July 11, 2023 the Fire District Board of Directors authorized this purchase with a ceiling not to exceed $825,000. Since then, a shipping estimate has been provided for $5,200 to deliver the vessel from the manufacturer in Washington State to Contra Costa County. The original estimate and board order did not include California Sales Tax for $67,813.82. With sales tax and delivery, the total price now exceeds the original board authority of $825,000.
The vessel's purchase price has not changed since the July 2023 Board Order. The new, not-to-exceed price of $860,00 contains approximately $10,000 of contingency budget for unforeseen needs during the construction or delivery.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (District) Maritime Response Team responds to medical emergencies, fires, spills, and rescues on 30 miles of navigable waterways with multiple high-value target hazards.
