Report Title:                     Purchase Order with AT&T for Cisco Networking Equipment to Support the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Chief Information Officer, to execute a purchase order with AT&T Corp in an amount not exceed $237,000 for the purchase of Cisco networking equipment.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The cost for this purchase is charged to the Office of the Sheriff. (100% User Department)

BACKGROUND:

The Department of Information Technology is currently engaged in the process of procuring and deploying Cisco networking equipment on behalf of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.  The Sheriff’s Office is moving the Court Security unit service from the Main Street Post Office building to the new County building located at 1026 Escobar, Martinez. The Sheriff’s security services group is responsible for real time video monitoring of all court facilities and assuring safety and security of court personnel and general public. The new Cisco equipment will allow for interoperability between court security services and the Sheriff’s monitoring and recording applications, support normal County VoIP services, and allow access to County network applications. With the deployment of this Cisco equipment both the Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Information Technology will be able to monitor and proactively respond to any issues. This request was competitively bid, with AT&T being the successful bidder.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Not purchasing the Cisco networking equipment could critically impair the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to ensure the security and efficiency of its operations, particularly in their new location. This could also have broader implications for public safety and departmental performance.
