RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute on behalf of the Health Services Director, a purchase order with Transport Products Unlimited, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $32,942 and rental contract for the rental of a refrigerated container for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) for the period from December 1, 2025 through November 30, 2028.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this action will result in expenditures of up to $32,942 over a three-year period and will be funded by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.
BACKGROUND:
Transport Products Unlimited, Inc. provides CCRMC with a refrigerated 20-foot storage container. This container is essential for storing critical pharmacy and laboratory supplies and increasing. Many of these items require temperature control to maintain sterility and meet regulatory standards. Heat and humidity can damage medical supplies, blood collection equipment and tubing can become unsterile, and adhesive labels may fail, causing mislabeling or identification errors. The refrigerated container provides additional secure, climate-controlled storage. It helps the Laboratory Department comply with Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Joint Commission requirements. It also ensures supplies remain ready during emergencies, disasters, or supply chain delays, and provides an effective option for increasing CCRMC's limited storage capacity. Continued rental is necessary to protect supply integrity and support safe patient care.
