Report Title: Purchase Order with World Book, Inc. for the Purchase of the 2026 World Book Encyclopedia and the Indigenous Peoples of North America Books.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute, on behalf of the County Librarian, a purchase order with World Book, Inc., subject to the terms of their Terms and Conditions for the Sale of Goods to Schools and Public Libraries, in an amount not to exceed $40,720 for the purchase of the 2026 World Book Encyclopedia and the Indigenous Peoples of North America books.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Library Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Library offers patrons the 2026 World Book Encyclopedia and Indigenous Peoples of North America books. Access to these resources benefit patrons by providing accurate, comprehensive, and culturally respectful information that enhances understanding of global knowledge and Indigenous histories, traditions, and contributions. These resources support education, promote cultural awareness, and help combat misinformation and stereotypes, fostering more informed and inclusive communities.
The terms and conditions include liability and indemnification language, and the governing law is Illinois law and was reviewed by County Counsel.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the Purchase Order is not approved, the Contra Costa County Library will not be able to provide patrons with the invaluable information found in these books.
