Report Title:                      Gift Cards for Clients of the Acute Communicable Disease Program

Recommendation: Recommendation of the County Administrator

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to purchase on behalf of the Health Services Director, 25 Safeway gift cards each with a $50 value, totaling $1,250; 25 Target gift cards each with a $50 value, totaling $1,250; 25 Walmart gift cards each with a $50 value, totaling $1,250; 50 SaveMart gift cards each with a $50 value, totaling $2,500, plus applicable shipping costs $100 for a total not to exceed $6,350 for clients of the Acute Communicable Disease (ACD) Program to help prevent disease transmission in the community.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This $6,350 expenditure will be funded entirely by California Emerging Infections Program funding. There will be no impact to the County General Fund.

BACKGROUND:

Contra Costa Health’s (CCH) Public Health Division maintains an ACD Program, which serves community members in Contra Costa County with certain reportable, infectious diseases. Gift cards are distributed to certain ACD program clients to help off-set or reduce financial barriers to engage in care and follow public health requirements that prevent the spread of communicable diseases.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, some ACD Program clients may face financial barriers to program compliance and be at greater risk of falling out of care and transmitting communicable disease to others in the community.
