From:                                          David O. Livingston, Sheriff-Coroner

Report Title:                     Forensic Pathology Services

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract with Forensic Pathology Services, LLC in an amount not to exceed $3,000,000 for forensic pathology services in the Coroner’s Division, for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this request will result in up to $3,000,000 in contractual service expenditures over a 2-year period and will be funded 100% by the General Fund.

BACKGROUND:

Forensic Pathology Services, who specialize in pathology and forensic pathology, will assume responsibility and perform autopsy services for deaths that fall within the jurisdiction of the Coroner. Forensic Pathologists will provide pathologists who will prepare documents and reports as required, provide training to personnel, provide court testimony as required and ensure that quality standards are met for the services performed. This will allow the Office of the Sheriff to continue to meet obligations to provide forensic pathology services.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board does not approve, the Office of the Sheriff will not have access to a specialized contractor to perform autopsy services and related reporting in the Coroner's Division.
