THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
and for Special Districts, Agencies and Authorities Governed by the Board
IN THE MATTER OF recognizing the 100th Anniversary of International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials.
WHEREAS, in 1926, a group of California plumbing inspectors united to address public health concerns arising from inconsistent plumbing practices and to develop a uniform model plumbing code to protect the communities they served; and
WHEREAS, this effort led to the founding of what is now known as IAPMO, formerly the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, whose original mandate was "to advance the latest and most improved methods of sanitation; to promote the welfare of and harmony between the owner, the builder, and the craftsman; and to accomplish uniformity in the application of the provisions of the ordinances"; and
WHEREAS, IAPMO convened inspectors, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, utilities, and other stakeholders to develop model codes and standards that have advanced safe and effective plumbing and mechanical systems for generations; and
WHEREAS, IAPMO first served the people of the County of Contra Costa through the development of the Uniform Plumbing Code, originally published in 1945, providing a comprehensive framework to safeguard health, safety, and sanitation for residents and businesses health and safety through the design, installation, and maintenance of plum...
