Report Title:                      Presentation on Storm Preparedness for the Upcoming Rainy Season.

Recommendation: Recommendation of the County Administrator

RECOMMENDATIONS:

ACCEPT Presentation on Storm Preparedness from the Contra Costa County Public Works Department so that Contra Costa County (County) residents have the information and resources available to prepare for the upcoming rainy season.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact with this presentation. Project No. 7505-6F8136

BACKGROUND:

Each year, the County and the County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (FCD) prepare for winter rain storms by performing routine maintenance of drainage facilities, including channel and culvert inspections, channel and culvert cleaning, removing obstructions, and preparing equipment for use during storms. In addition, the County and FCD encourage residents to prepare for storm events on their private property to minimize risks during the rainy season. With recent reports of a historic El Niño event predicted in 2026, the County and FCD have created a Storm Preparedness presentation to help prepare County residents for major storm events. The presentation addresses topics such as drainage responsibilities, County and FCD annual storm preparation, and available resources.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board does not accept the presentation, the public may not be aware of County and FCD information and resources available to prepare for storms during the upcoming rainy season.
