IN THE MATTER OF honoring Damian Sanderson, Fire Captain-Paramedic, upon his retirement from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District after 27 years of service with Contra Costa County,

WHEREAS, Damian Sanderson began his service with Contra Costa County as a Firefighter-Recruit on May 19, 1997; and

WHEREAS, Damian Sanderson was promoted to Firefighter on October 1, 1997; and

WHEREAS, Damian Sanderson was reassigned to Firefighter-Paramedic on June 1, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Damian Sanderson was promoted to Fire Engineer on November 9, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Damian Sanderson was promoted to Fire Captain-Paramedic on March 1, 2006; and

WHEREAS, throughout his time with the Fire District, Fire Captain-Paramedic Damian Sanderson provided exceptional dedication to the communities he served; was at the forefront of the deployment of paramedics in the Fire District; spent the majority of his career serving the residents and communities of West Contra Costa County where he was a well-known and stabilizing presence; was the Fire District's 2018 Firefighter of the Year; gave back to his fellow firefighters by sacrificing his comfort during his final years on the job by taking on new responsibilities as a mentor, coach, and teacher while operating as a Shift Safety Officer; and
