Referral History and Update:

The Sustainability Commission submits an annual Climate Action Plan Progress Report (Progress Report) to the Board of Supervisors. In 2022, staff recommended to the Sustainability Commission that all Progress Reports be submitted in March, concurrent with the submittal of annual reports for other planning documents submitted by the Department of Conservation and Development. This also allows the report to include data for the entire calendar year.

The Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) 2024 Update was adopted by the Board of Supervisors on November 5, 2024. The 2015 Climate Action Plan extended through 2020. The Sustainability Committee of the Board of Supervisors was provided an Interim Climate Action Work Plan for 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 while the CAAP was being updated. Attached is the 2023-2024 Interim Climate Action Work Plan (Attachment A).

Also attached is the Draft Climate Action Plan Progress Report for 2024 (Attachment B). The 2024 Progress Report is reporting on progress towards the 2023-2024 Interim Climate Action Work Plan. Going forward, Progress Reports will focus on the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan 2024 Update. The Progress Report will be submitted to the Board of Supervisors in March, as part of a package of annual reports submitted by the Department of Conservation and Development.
