Report Title:                     Approve Budget Amendment No.25-00021 authorizing the acquisition of one new vehicle for the Employment and Human Services Department, Fraud and Appeals Division

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE Budget Amendment No. 25-00021 authorizing the transfer of appropriations in the amount of $30,754 from Fraud Incentive Funds Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) (0501) Fund 100300 to Fleet Internal Services Fund (ISF), Auto and Trucks (Fleet), Fund 150100 for the purchase of one replacement vehicle (2002 Ford Taurus Sedan Asset# 0381).

FISCAL IMPACT:

The replacement of the non-ISF vehicle will be funded 100% through EHSD Administration budgeted funds (100% County).

BACKGROUND:

The Fraud Unit is seeking to replace one county vehicle for purposes of investigating suspected fraudulent applications for the Employment and Human Services Department public assistance programs. The role of the Fraud Investigator involves frequent travel to various locations, including remote areas to conduct investigations, interviews and fieldwork. The current vehicle being used for these purposes is no longer functioning and was deemed inoperable by the Public Works Department in December 2024. A new vehicle would ensure the Fraud Investigator could get to job sites safely and as required by the position.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Should the proposed action not be approved by the Board of Supervisors, the County will not be able to meet state and federal mandates required of fraud investigations.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

This contract supports the fourth community outcome established by the Children’s Report Card, “Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing”.
