IN THE MATTER OF Acknowledgement of National Mental Health Day of Prayer
and Joaquin Anthony Pereyra Day of Remembrance on October 6, 2026

WHEREAS, nationally, 20% percent of the population is reported to be living with a mental health condition and face obstacles to receiving effective treatment due to poor service delivery, stigma, and cultural barriers; and

WHEREAS, in an effort to reflect the diverse population of Contra Costa and in support of NAMI Contra Costa’s FaithNet Program has been a pioneering county to heed the voice of Peers, Families, in building collaborations with various faith based/spiritual communities to explore all resources and tools that enhance mental wellness; and

WHEREAS, Peers, families’ members, providers, spiritual/faith leaders and all others can participate in effort to unite in a collective manner to replace misinformation about mental illness, erase prejudices, fear and blame thereby reducing stigma, racial disparities to unserved, underserved and inappropriately served communities by offering prayers and positive meditative to assist Contra Costa Residents to have improved mental health outcomes; and
