Report Title: Final Settlement of Claim, John Brown vs. Contra Costa County

RECOMMENDATIONS:
RECEIVE this report concerning the final settlement of John Brown and AUTHORIZE payment from the Workers' Compensation Internal Service Fund in an amount not to exceed $250,000.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Workers' Compensation Internal Service Fund payment of $250,000.
BACKGROUND:
Attorney Mark A. Cartier, defense counsel for the County, has advised the County Administrator that within authorization an agreement has been reached settling the workers' compensation claim of John Brown v. Contra Costa County. The Board's December 9, 2025, closed session vote was: Supervisors Gioia, Andersen, Burgis, Carlson and Scales-Preston - Yes. This action is taken so that the terms of this final settlement and the earlier December 9, 2025, closed session vote of this Board authorizing its negotiated settlement are known publicly.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Case will not be settled.
