IN THE MATTER OF Resolution recognizing the Retirement of Councilmember David Shapiro from the Town of Moraga
WHEREAS, David was elected in 2022 to serve on the Town Council for a term ending December 2024; and
WHEREAS, In 2023 he was appointed Councilmember Representative to AUHSD (Acalanes Union High School District) Liaison (Alternate), Lamorinda School Bus Transportation Agency (Alternate) Moraga School District (Alternate); and
WHEREAS, David has been a potter for the last 25 years, finding time for his hobby between work, family, kids' sports, and theater performances; and
WHEREAS, As a serious pottery enthusiast, David's wife enrolled him in a ceramic class as a Father's Day gift. The joke was that he'd "do it once and be done with it," but the joke backfired, and according to Shapiro, "Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon, you would always find me there." Eight years ago, Shapiro bought a pottery wheel and has turned his garage into a studio complete with all of the supplies necessary to keep him busy at home, including an electric kiln; and

WHEREAS, David's electric kiln takes one day to fire several shelves of pottery pieces, while Raku firings take only 45 minutes, because they use gas which heats faster. Shapiro's home is brimming with creations as further evidence that Tina's Father's Day gift has come back ...
