Report Title: Purchase Order with Cardinal Health Pharmacy Services, LLC
Recommendation: Recommendation of the County Administrator
RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute on behalf of the Health Services Director, a purchase order with Cardinal Health Pharmacy Services, LLC in an amount not to exceed $250,000 for the purchase of Lymphoseek and supplies for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) & Health Centers for the period from September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2028.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This purchase order will result in budgeted expenditures of up to $250,000 over a two-year period and will be funded by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.
BACKGROUND:
Surgeons performing sentinel lymph node (SLN) procedures have reported difficulty obtaining adequate localization using the standard filtered Sulfur Colloid tracer. Lymphoseek is specifically designed for SLN mapping and provides more reliable lymph node localization, improving intraoperative detection and supporting optimal patient care.
These purchases were determined to be exempt from Administrative Bulletin 600.4 solicitation requirements by the Public Works Department’s Purchasing Division.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, the CCRMC and Health Centers will be required to continue using filtered Sulfur Colloid despite surgeon reported limitations in SLN detection which may negatively impact surgical accuracy, diagnostic reliability, and patient treatment outcomes.
