Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Auditors-Controller, or designee, to pay an amount not to exceed $2,802 to Industrial Water Treatment, Inc. (dba Melo Water Treatment) for service to the water softener system at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) on June 24, 2024, as recommended by the Health Services Director.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this action would result in a one-time expenditure in an amount not to exceed $2,802 and will be funded by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.

BACKGROUND:

Industrial Water Treatment Inc. (dba Melo Water Treatment) is a company that specializes in providing water treatment solutions for industrial applications. They focus on the treatment, purification, and management of water to ensure it meets specific quality standards for industrial use. This includes processes like water filtration, softening, chemical treatments, and wastewater management for industries such as manufacturing, food processing, energy production, and more. Water purification regulations are primarily governed at the federal level by agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which enforces the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).

CCRMC is in the process of determining whether an agreement should be processed as a contract or with a purchase order. In the interim, the vendor generously provided their services without an agreement in place to ensure CCRMC’s regulatory requirements were met for patient safety and quality of care at the hospital and health centers.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If action is not approved, Melo Water Treatment will not be paid for the services rendered at CCRMC.
