Report Title:                     Cancel Two Part-Time Ambulatory Care Provider-Exempt Positions and Add One Full-Time Primary Care Provider-Exempt Position in the Contra Costa Health Department.

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution No. 26238 to cancel two (2) vacant Ambulatory Care Provider-Exempt (VPT1) 22/40 positions #8477 and #14701 at salary plan and grade 1PX-1001 ($16,676 - $18,911) and add one (1) full-time Primary Care Provider-Exempt (VPT5) position at salary plan and grade 1PX-1000 ($19,001 - $21,669) in the Contra Costa Health Department. (Represented)

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, this action will result in an overall cost of approximately $16,720, with pension costs of $2,443 already included. (100% Hospital Enterprise Fund I)

BACKGROUND:

Hospital management in the Health Services department has determined the need for an additional Primary Care Provider in the Department of Family Medicine and has identified a qualified Provider to hire in that capacity. To offset the cost of adding this new position, we are requesting to cancel two part-time Ambulatory Care Provider positions which have been vacant for over two years. Management has determined that operations in the health centers will not be negatively impacted by the cancelation of these two part-time positions.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If not approved, Family Medicine will not have the necessary positions to appropriately staff their clinic. This may impact patient services and overall wait times, while causing the providers to take on higher workloads.
