Report Title:                     Forensic Pathology Services - Mark A. Super M.D.

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract with Mark A. Super M.D., in an amount not to exceed $300,000 for forensic pathology services for the period December 1, 2024 through July 31, 2025.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this request will result in up to $300,000 in contractual service expenditures and will be funded 100% by the General Fund.

BACKGROUND:

Dr. Super M.D. specializes in pathology and forensic pathology. Dr. Super assumes responsibility and performs autopsy services for deaths that fall within the jurisdiction of the Sheriff-Coroner. He prepares documents and reports, provides training to personnel, provides court testimony as required and ensures that quality standards are met for the services performed. This will allow the Office of the Sheriff to continue to meet obligations to provide forensic pathology services.

The department is seeking approval of this retroactive contract due to an administrative delay caused by the substantial number of new contracts the Office of the Sheriff is currently handling. The contractor has continued to provide services in good faith.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board does not approve, it will result in the Office of the Sheriff not having access to this contractor to perform autopsy services and related reporting in the Coroner’s Division.
