RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to execute a contract with Livermore Saw & Mower, LLC in an amount not to exceed $250,000, to provide small engine repair and preventive maintenance services for small engine and landscape maintenance equipment, for the period of October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2031, Countywide.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Facilities Maintenance Budget. (100% General Fund)
BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Department, Facilities Services, is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all County properties. Government Code Section 25358 authorizes the County to contract for the maintenance and upkeep of County buildings and grounds, which includes the small-engine and landscape equipment used to maintain those grounds.
Facilities Services requires small engine repair and preventive maintenance contracts to support the daily operational needs of the Grounds Division. County Fleet Mechanics are not trained or equipped to service 2-cycle and 4-cycle small-engine equipment and do not maintain the specialized parts or tools required. Regular preventive maintenance is essential to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and reduced downtime. The Grounds Division’s equipment is overdue for service, and contractors can provide timely diagnostics, repairs, and parts support.
The Public Works Department recently conducted a formal solicitation for small engine repair and preventive maintenance services in February of 2026. The Request for Proposal was originally bid on Bidnet Direct #RFP_F-CONTR-0000000174.
