RECOMMENDATIONS:

 

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract with Brain Squared Solutions, in an amount not to exceed $296,000 to provide professional development training to Employment and Human Services staff for the period July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

$296,000: 59% Federal, 35% State, and 6% County funds, $148,000 of which will be budgeted in FY 24-25, and $148,000 of which will be budgeted in FY 25-26.

 

BACKGROUND:

 

Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) has been contracting with Brain Squared Solutions for over 5 years. The training provided is well researched, and professionally designed to meet the needs of our staff.  The previous contract was executed with a payment limit not to exceed $158,400 for one year, which did not require Board approval.

Brain Squared Solutions offers a variety of courses to staff including but not limited to: Empower to Perform, The Supervisor Series, Mentoring Program training, Critical Thinking, Effective Business Writing, Difficult Conversations, Emotional Intelligence, Giving & Receiving Feedback, You and a Successful Interview, Time Management and more. These educational services meet the exception for solicitation under Administrative Bulletin 600.3.

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

 

Should the proposed action not be approved by the Board of Supervisors, the County will be limited in its professional development training.

This contract supports the 4th community outcome established in the Children’s Report Card: “Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing”.
