RECOMMENDATIONS:
Acting as the governing board of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District; APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute, on behalf of the Fire Chief, a purchase order amendment to CON-10005407, with Hazmat Resource, to increase the payment limit by $200,000 to a new payment limit of $440,000 for the acquisition of hazardous materials equipment, personal protective equipment, training devices, technical reference material, and related accessories for the period May 1, 2025 through April 30, 2028.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Budgeted. 100% CCCFPD General Operating Fund.

BACKGROUND:
The release, combustion, or explosion of hazardous materials poses severe risks to public safety, the environment, and property. In response to these dangers, many fire departments have established specialized Hazardous Materials Response Teams. Since 2018, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District has received critical equipment, training, and funding from the California Office of Emergency Services. In 2021, the district further strengthened its capabilities by acquiring a hazardous materials emergency response vehicle.

Maintaining a consistent stock of hazardous materials response equipment ensures availability when the need arises. Using standardized equipment, as established by state guidelines, ensures interoperability among Hazmat teams across California. Hazmat Resource is one of the few vendors whose products meet both state and national firefighting safety standards.

This is a change to blanket purchase order #CON-10005407, increasing funds by $200,000.
