BACKGROUND:

Four agreements to settle pending litigation, as defined in Government Code section 54956.9, became final during the period June 1, 2024, through August 31, 2024.

Elianna Esquivel, a minor v. County of Contra Costa; Contra Costa Superior Court, Case No. C21-01863. On January 16, 2024, the Board of Supervisors approved a final settlement in this medical malpractice case. The Board approved the settlement for $950,000 in closed session by a vote of 5-0. The settlement agreement was fully executed on June 9, 2024. The funding source is the Risk Management Medical Malpractice Internal Service Fund.

Brenda Hall v. Contra Costa County, et al.; Contra Costa County Superior Court, Case No. C24-00975. On June 25, 2024, the Board of Supervisors approved a final settlement in this medical malpractice case. The Board approved the settlement for $395,000 in closed session by a vote of 5-0. The settlement agreement was fully executed on August 5, 2024. The funding source is the Risk Management Medical Malpractice Internal Service Fund.

Karla-Monique Veal v. Contra Costa County, et al.; Contra Costa County Superior Court, Case No. C19-02153. On August 13, 2024, the Board of Supervisors approved a final settlement in this employment case arising out of plaintiff's termination. The Board approved the settlement for $170,000 in closed session by a vote of 5-0. The settlement agreement was fully executed on July 25, 2024.
