RECOMMENDATIONS:
RECEIVE notice of adjustment in compensation paid to members of the Board of Supervisors, showing the 0.3226 percent salary increase for Board members retroactive to July 1, 2024, as required by Ordinance 2019-11.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual cost of the salary increase will be approximately $500 per Board member.
BACKGROUND:
On April 16, 2019, the Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance No. 2019-11, linking the base salary for members of the Board of Supervisors to the salary of Superior Court judges. The ordinance provides that from and after January 1, 2021, Supervisors receive 65% of judges' salary. This includes the increases, at the same time and in the same percentage, that the judges receive, so that a base salary of 65% of the Superior Court judges' salary is maintained. Ordinance No. 2019-11 requires that for all adjustments to base salary occurring after January 1, 2021, a "notice of adjustment in compensation paid to members of the board of supervisors" shall appear on the agenda of a regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors at least ten (10) days prior to the date such adjustment is implemented. Each such adjustment will have the same effective date as the corresponding salary adjustment for the Superior Court Judge.
On November 14, 2024, the County received notice that Superior Court judges' salary was increased to $244,727, retroactive to July 1, 2024. This was a 0.3226% increase to judicial salaries. The purpose of this Board Order is to provide notice, pursuant to Ordinance 2019-11, that the salaries for members of the Board of Supervisors also are increased by a further 0.3226% to maintain a base salary of 65% of Superior Court Judges' salary.
