RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-642-3 with San Jose State University, an educational institution, to provide supervised field instruction in County's Public Health Services Division to non-clinical public health students, for the period from November 1, 2025 through October 31, 2027.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact for this action.
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this Agreement is to provide San Jose State University, non-clinical public health students with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for students is considered to be an integral part of both educational and professional preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, benefiting from the students' services to patients.
On October 18, 2022, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-642-2 with San Jose State University, to provide supervised field instruction in County's Public Health Services Division to non-clinical public health students, for the period from October 1, 2022 through August 31, 2025.
Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-642-3 will allow the County's Public Health Division will provide supervised fieldwork instruction experience to San Jose State University's non-clinical, public health students enrolled in the University's public health training program through October 31, 2027.
