Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Acting as the governing board of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent on behlaf of the Fire Chief, or designee to execute a purchase order amendment with International Motor Controls, Inc. to increase the payment limit by $100,000 to a new payment limit of $700,000 due to unforeseen tariff surcharges for the manufacture and sale of electrical switchgear for the Contra Costa Regional Fire Communications Center remodel project.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Budgeted: 100% CCCFPD EMS Transport Fund.

BACKGROUND:

In November 2024, the Board approved a request from the Fire District concerning International Motor Controls (File Number 24-3643) for a purchase order. International Motor Controls specializes in the manufacturing and sale of electrical switchgear, which is essential for providing uninterrupted backup power for the Contra Costa Regional Communications Center remodel project. The proposed amendment seeks to add $100,000 to the existing purchase order to address unforeseen tariff surcharges.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The District will be unable to acquire the electrical switchgear needed for the new communications center. This could subject the District to construction delay claims and additional costs for extended general conditions.
