Report Title:                     Reclassify one Medical Records Technician position #9574 and its incumbent in the Health Services Department

RECOMMENDATIONS:

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 26163 to reclassify position #9574 and its incumbent (Employee #77252) from Medical Records Technician (VNTB) at salary plan and grade 3RX-1119 ($4,512 - $5,762) to Medical Records Coder (VNTA) at salary plan and grade 3R5-1288 ($5,347 - $6,500) in the Health Services Department. (Represented)

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is an annual increase of $12,829.00, with $4,975.00 in pensions included. The cost will be funded by 100% Hospital Enterprise Fund I.

BACKGROUND:

The Health Services Department requested that the Human Resources Department conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the Medical Records Technician position #9574 in the Patient Billing Department as the duties and responsibilities of the position have evolved to the higher-level classification of Medical Records Coder. With the CAO's approval, Human Resources conducted a desk audit to determine if the higher-level classification was more appropriate. At the conclusion of the review, Human Resources confirmed that the work performed in this position had changed over time and was now consistent with the expectations of the Medical Records Coder job class.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the incumbent will not be compensated appropriately in the performance of the higher level duties. The department will not have an employee performing the required duties.
