RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute, on behalf of the Public Works Director, a blanket purchase order with George Reed, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $3,000,000, for aggregate and rock products for the road Surface Treatment Program, for the period of June 4, 2024, through June 3, 2027, Countywide.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Local Road Funds.
BACKGROUND:
The placement of a chip seal to resurface County roads is a long-established preventative maintenance practice. A chip seal surface treatment increases the asphalt pavement life by an additional seven to ten years and extends the time before another surface treatment is needed. This blanket purchase order is needed to supply the County with aggregate and rock products for the road Surface Treatment Program.
On January 25, 2024, the County issued Invitation to Bid (IFB) No. 2401-738 for aggregate and rock products. George Reed, Inc. was selected to provide the commodity; the blanket purchase order will have a three-year term, with the option of two one-year extensions.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If a blanket purchase order is not executed, aggregate and rock products will not be procured through George Reed, Inc., and the County may be unable to perform routine road surface treatment work.
