IN THE MATTER OF Proclaiming November 28th 2023 as In-Home Supportive Services Provider Day
WHEREAS, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) providers play a vital role in supporting seniors and people with disabilities in Contra Costa County, ensuring they can live with dignity and independence in the comfort of their own homes; and
WHEREAS, as of September 2023, there are 13,608 dedicated IHSS providers in Contra Costa County who deliver high-quality care to low-income residents and save taxpayers millions of dollars each year when compared to more costly tax funded institutional care; and
WHEREAS, the diligent work of in-home caregivers - the majority of whom are women of color and immigrants - often goes unnoticed, along with the financial struggles they and their families endure to provide this essential service to those in need; and
WHEREAS, IHSS providers devote their time, compassion, and expertise to assist those in need with a spectrum of supports from essential daily activities to critical and intimate care service, enabling consumers to maintain their health, well-being and highest level of independence; and
WHEREAS, IHSS providers demonstrate unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of life for members of our community, often going above and beyond their duties to provide emotional support and companionship to their clients; and
