From:                                          David O. Livingston, Sheriff-Coroner

Report Title:                     Stericycle, Inc.

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

RATIFY the execution of a contract with Stericycle, Inc., in the amount of $50,000 for hazardous waste management services for the Office of the Sheriff, Forensics Division for the period August 1, 2025 through August 31, 2028, with an automatic extension option through August 30, 2031.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this request will result in up to $50,000 in contractual service expenditures over a 3-year period and will be funded 100% by the General Fund.

BACKGROUND:

Stericycle, Inc. provides hazardous waste management services, including the disposal of pathological waste and the collection of chemo waste. The department originally paid Stericycle Inc. for hazard waste services through a purchase order. This request is for a contract that was executed without Board approval, due to an internal administrative oversight. The requested term is retroactive to when the contractor continued to provide services in good faith and also allows the department to continue using the vendor through August 31, 2028 and another 3-year term if both parties opt-in to a renewal through August 30, 2031.

The Terms and Conditions include a limitation of liability and indemnification from the County to the Contractor.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board does not approve, it would result in service interruptions for the Office of the Sheriff, Forensics Division for the disposal of pathological waste and the collection of chemo waste, which are vital services for the department.
