RECOMMENDATIONS:

AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to advertise the 2026 On-Call Walking Excavator Services Contract(s) for Various Road and Flood Control Maintenance Work to provide walking excavator services on steep slopes for rock slope protection repair, road bench repair, and creek bank repair, Countywide.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Local Road and Flood Control Funds.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Contra Costa County Public Works Department (County) maintains over 660 miles of roads, 79 miles of creeks and channels, and 29 detention basins and dams throughout the County.

 

The County will use the 2026 On-Call Walking Excavator Services Contracts for Various Road and Flood Control Maintenance Work to provide walking excavator services for a variety of maintenance needs, including, but not limited to, rock slope protection repairs, road bench repairs, and creek bank repairs at various locations throughout Contra Costa County.

 

The County intends to award at maximum of three (3) $750,000 contracts to responsible bidder(s). The contract will have a term of one (1) year with the option of two (2) one-year extensions. The contract(s) will be used, as needed, without a minimum amount required to be spent.

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not advertised, the County may be unable to complete routine road and flood control maintenance work in a timely manner.
