RECOGNIZE April 14, 2026 as Nepal Day in Contra Costa County.

BACKGROUND:
Nepal Day is observed annually on or around April 14, 2026 to mark the Nepali New Year, a culturally significant occasion celebrated by Nepali communities worldwide. The United States established diplomatic relations with Nepal on April 25, 1947, reflecting a longstanding relationship between the two nations.
Contra Costa County is home to a diverse and growing population, including residents of Nepali descent who contribute meaningfully to the cultural, civic, and economic vitality of the community. Local Nepali community organizations play an important role in fostering cultural awareness, preserving traditional customs and values, and strengthening community connections throughout the County.
Members of the Nepali community in Contra Costa County have made notable contributions across a range of fields, including education, entrepreneurship, public service, arts and culture, and other professions. Observing Nepal Day provides an opportunity for the Board of Supervisors and the broader community to recognize these contributions and to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Nepali and Nepalese American residents.
The proposed recognition of April 14, 2026 as Nepal Day in Contra Costa County aligns with the County's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and supports efforts to acknowledge and honor the cultural traditions of all communities within the County.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Nepal Day would not be formally recognized by the Board of Supervisors.
