Report Title: Ratification of $500,000 Blanket Purchase Order with MWI Veterinary Supply Co. for FY 2026/27
RECOMMENDATIONS:
RATIFY the Purchasing Agent's execution, on behalf of the Animal Services Director, of a blanket purchase order with MWI Veterinary Supply Co. in an amount not to exceed $500,000 for veterinary pharmaceutical supplies and chemicals for the period of July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Projected FY 2026/2027 costs are $500,000 and budgeted. 60% City Contracts, 8% User Fees, 32% County General Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Department's in-house medical program requires access to a broad range of pharmaceutical and chemical supplies to support the care of thousands of animals each year. The County's Public Works Purchasing Department conducted a formal competitive bid process in late 2022 on behalf of the Animal Services Department and awarded the bid to MWI Veterinary Supply Co. for three years with the option for a fourth and fifth year renewal.
With the Board's ratification, this FY 2026/27 Blanket Purchase Order of $500,000 enters its fifth and final year, allowing continued procurement of critical veterinary pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and related products necessary for the health and welfare of animals in the County's care.
As this is the final renewal year available under the 2022 competitive bid award, the Department will initiate a new Request for Proposals (RFP) process during FY 2026/27 to competitively solicit veterinary pharmaceutical supply services for FY 2027/28 and beyond. This renewal is intended to maintain uninterrupted access to critical veterinary pharmaceuticals and supplies while the new competitive procurement process is prepared and conducted.
