Report Title:                     Re-appointments to the Hazardous Materials Commission

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 

REAPPOINT the following individuals to seats on the Hazardous Materials Commission for a three-year term with an expiration date of December 31, 2028:

- Soheila Bana, Richmond Council Member to City Seat 3

- Marielle Boortz to the League of Women Voters Seat

- Madeline Kronenberg to the League of Women Voters Alternate Seat

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

There is no fiscal impact for this action.

 

BACKGROUND:

 

The Hazardous Materials Commission was established in 1986 to advise the Board, County staff and the mayors’ council members, and staffs of the cities within the County, on issues related to the development, approval and administration of the County Hazardous Waste Management Plan. Specifically, the Board charged the Commission with drafting a hazardous materials storage and transportation plan and ordinance, coordinating the implementation of the hazardous materials release response plan and inventory program, and to analyze and develop recommendations regarding hazardous materials issues with consideration to broad public input, and report back to the Board on Board referrals. 

 

The bylaws of the Commission provide three representatives of cities, appointed by the City Selection Committee pursuant to Article 11 (§ 50270 et seq.) of Chapter 1 of Part 1 of Division 1 of Title 5 of the Government Code;

 

The bylaws of the Commission provide that one (1) representative of the League of Women Voters, nominated by the League and appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

 

If these re-appointments are not made, these seats will become unfilled.
