IN THE MATTER OF
Recognizing Elena Velazquez as the recipient of the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. High School Student No. 2026-08 Federal D. Glover Humanitarian Award.

WHEREAS, from an early age, Elena Velazquez has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to humanitarianism, social justice, and community service. Elena is an outstanding candidate for this prestigious award because of her dedication to improving the lives of people both locally and globally; and
WHEREAS, Elena began serving her community at the age of six, volunteering at The Latina Center to support children during civic meetings, gaining firsthand experience in community engagement and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Elena has inspired others by championing youth voices and advocating for equity and inclusion. Her leadership ensures that every voice is heard, regardless of background, and reflects her dream of a better, fairer world for all; and
WHEREAS, Elena founded the first Environmental Committee at Summit Tamalpais High School, initiating a recycling program that transformed the school's sustainability practices and educated students on environmental stewardship; and
