RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract, including modified insurance language, with Bay Area Chaplains, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $202,000 for chaplaincy services, for the period July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this request will result in up to $202,000 in annual contractual service expenditures and will be funded 100% by State AB 109 Public Safety Realignment Funds.

 

 

BACKGROUND:

The Bay Area Chaplains, Inc., provide clergy to meet the diverse spiritual needs of inmates and their families housed in the Office of the Sheriff's adult detention facilities in Contra Costa County. Clergy of all denominations provide counseling, religious materials and literature,

bible studies, worship services, and respond to crisis and emergencies involving inmates or staff.

 

 

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board does not approve, chaplaincy services within the three Office of the Sheriff adult detention facilities will not be available to the incarcerated population.
