BACKGROUND:

 

One agreement to settle pending litigation, as defined in Government Code section 54956.9, became final during the period October 1, 2025, through October 31, 2025.

 

Hinkle, et al. v. Baass, et al.; U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, Case No. 3:18-cv-06430 MMC:  On October 22, 2024, the Board of Supervisors approved a settlement in this class action lawsuit against Contra Costa, Alameda, and San Diego counties and the State of California involving Medi-Cal communications for individuals who are visually impaired/blind.  As part of the settlement, the County will be responsible for implementing alternative format information and communications provided by the State’s Department of Health Care Services but is not responsible for any monetary payment to plaintiffs or their attorneys.  The Board approved the settlement in closed session by a vote of 5-0.  The settlement agreement was fully executed on November 8, 2024, and it received final approval by the Court on October 3, 2025.

 

 

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

 

The report would not be accepted.
