IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING AUGUST 31, 2025, AS INTERNATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

 

 

WHEREAS: the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors does affirm and acknowledge the harm and impact surrounding drug overdose; and

 

WHEREAS: the Board of Supervisors declares and recognizes International Overdose Awareness Day which is being held to eliminate the stigma associated with overdose, remember loved ones who have died from drug overdose, and support those left behind with their grief; and

 

WHEREAS: the Board of Supervisors, in partnership with Contra Costa Health Services and our many community and health partners, resolves to help reduce the number of overdoses which continue to claim the lives of Contra Costa County community members every year and forever affects those who loved and cared about them; and

 

WHEREAS: the Board of Supervisors acknowledges that the people affected by overdose are our family members, friends, co-workers and neighbors, and are deserving of our remembrance, love, compassion and support; and

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, along with the Contra Costa County MEDS Coalition, the National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse and other community partners, does hereby proclaim August 31st, 2025, as International Overdose Awareness Day.
