RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Librarian, or designee, to close the Antioch Library for renovations on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and reopen to the public on approximately February 16, 2027.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The closure is due to renovations, funded by $591,600 (68%) Measure X Funds, $182,700 (21%) California State Library Building Forward Grant Funds, and $95,700 (11%) Library Funds.
BACKGROUND:
On November 4, 2025, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Public Works Department to award the construction contract for the Antioch Library Electrical System Upgrades Project to Vantis. The project will consist of upgraded electrical and lighting systems and ADA upgrades as triggered and required by the 2022 California Building Code, including parking lot and entryway upgrades. Due to the planned renovations, the library branch will be closed September 1, 2026, through approximately September 16, 2027.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the branch is not closed, the renovations will not be able to proceed.
