Report Title:                     Budget Amendment No. BDA-25-00164 for Patrol Purchases

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE Budget Amendment No. BDA-25-00164 authorizing the appropriation of fund balance in the amount of $251,000 for the purchase of shields, scopes and stop-sticks for the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This item will be fully paid out of the Sheriff Forfeiture-Fed-DOJ Fund (114200) and will have no impact on County Funds.

BACKGROUND:

Under the Equitable Sharing Program of the Department of Justice, the Office of the Sheriff receives an equitable portion, or share, of proceeds awarded based on an agency’s direct participation in an investigation that results in the forfeiture of a federally seized asset per 21 U.S.C § 881(e)(3). The general guidance for use of funds is restricted to law enforcement purposes only.

The Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division will use the funds to purchase the needed shields, scopes and stop-sticks that are designed to protect deputies, add engagement versatility, and assist in safely ending high-speed pursuits, respectively.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board does not approve this request, deputies will be unable to fund the purchase of the equipment and items needed and will lead to lack in proper equipment and limit engagement response.
