BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (District) relies on a robust and secure network infrastructure to support mission-critical operations, including Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), emergency communications, and internal administrative services. The District's current perimeter security hardware is nearing its end-of-life and lacks the throughout and advanced threat detection capabilities required to defend against modern cyber threats. This board order authorizes the purchase of two (2) Cisco Secure Firewall 4250 appliances and all required subscription licenses, software, support, and extended service agreements to replace the aging infrastructure. These Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW) will be deployed in a high-availability cluster to ensure zero downtime for critical emergency services. The Cisco 4250 series provides advanced intrusion prevention, deep packet inspection, and superior malware defense. This upgrade is essential to maintain compliance with stringent data security standards, protect sensitive public safety data, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of critical information between our dispatch center, fire stations, and mobile apparatus.
