To: Board of Directors
From: Lewis Broschard, Chief, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District
Report Title: Resolution to add one Deputy Fire Marshal position and cancel one Battalion Chief position

RECOMMENDATIONS:
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 26197 to add one Deputy Fire Marshal (RJGA) (unrepresented) position at salary plan and grade BF5 2149 ($15,052 - $18,296) and cancel one vacant Battalion Chief 40-hour (RPHE) (represented) position #19979 at salary plan and grade HAS 2149 ($16,550 - $18,246) in the Fire Protection District.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact. This request is tied to a position modification that was approved in FY 2023-24 Recommended Budget Resolution No. 2023/189, Attachment C (page 17).
BACKGROUND:
As previously stated, the Battalion Chief-40 Hour position was added during the FY 2023-24 budget development period as a budgetary placeholder for the District, while it continued to work with the County Human Resources Department on the establishing of a Deputy Fire Marshal classification. In February 2023, the classification of Fire Marshal was revised and retitled to Deputy Fire Marshal. This request is to add one Deputy Fire Marshal position and to cancel the placeholder Battalion Chief 40-hour position.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Failure to add a position of Deputy Fire Marshal will hinder the District’s ability to fill this now vital role.
