Report Title:                     Contract with NVA Brentwood VH Veterinary Management LP dba Brentwood Veterinary Hospital

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute a contract with NVA Brentwood VH Veterinary Management LP, dba Brentwood Veterinary Hospital, in an amount not to exceed $10,000 for veterinary services for the Agriculture Dog Team Program for the period of July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

FISCAL IMPACT:

California State Department of Food and Agriculture Agreement #25-0231-002-SF provides reimbursement for the Agriculture Department for canine expenses. There is no County match of funds. 100% State funded.

BACKGROUND:

The Department has a contract with the California Department of Food and Agriculture to reimburse the County up to $356,108 to expand the County’s Agriculture Dog Team for the period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. The State’s agreement #25-0231-002-SF includes reimbursement for canine care expenses up to$60,000.

This contract contains indemnification and a hold-harmless provision to protect the County against potential liabilities for use of this site, which was approved by County Counsel. The contract development process required extended review between the County and the vendor, which is why Board approval is being sought after the contract effective date.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Failure to approve this contract will result in loss of required veterinary services and potential loss of the canine contract of $356,108 for the Agriculture Department and breach of Agreement #25-0231-002-SF with the State.
