Report Title:                     Contract with Performance Marine Specialties, Inc.

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Acting as the governing board of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fire Chief, or designee, to enter into a 3-year contract with Performance Marine Specialties, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $450,000 to provide maintenance and repair services of fire district boats, for the period November 1, 2024, through October 31, 2027.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Budgeted. 100% CCCFPD General Operating Fund.

BACKGROUND:

The fire district owns and operates several boats to respond to marine-based emergencies. These emergencies include missing persons, fire, overturned vessels, medical emergencies, fires, hazardous materials incidents, and persons in distress. Maintaining these specialized response vessels requires purchasing parts, accessories, and associated materials and conducting scheduled and emergency maintenance and repairs.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is approved, the fire district would have to identify alternate means to repair vessels.  This would cause delays in repairs as the purchasing process is navigated. Vessels will be at a higher risk of breakdowns, safety hazards, and reduced reliability.  This would negatively impact response times, response capability, and the overall mission of the fire district and its marine program.
